About Hiranya

Hiranya, means ‘made of gold’ in ancient Indian texts like Rig Veda. Both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata mentions of hiranya vastra as the fabric of the gods. At Hiranya, we aim to achieve the same gold standard of excellence in production and social responsibility.

Hiranya promotes sustainable, handmade and eco-friendly clothing. This emanates from our belief that sustainable clothing and slow fashion are an integral journey towards social justice. We work with weavers from Fulia, Malda, Burdwan, Chanderi, Varanasi, and other places to bring you high-quality handloom sarees, scarves, anti-fits and wraps made out of pure linen, cotton and silks. Hiranya believes in non-exploitative and ethical methods of production and fair pricing for local artisan and local crafts. It offers better trading conditions and secure the rights of marginalised artisans it aims to work with.

Hiranya emerged as a market-based social entrepreneurship project to sustain our campaign ‘Wear One, Clothe One’. The campaign works with the people who experience homelessness and address one of their most basic needs- clean and safe clothing. With every purchase of a product from the brand, a homeless person is provided comfortable and climate friendly set of clothes.

We, at Hiranya, believe that small changes can create opportunities and have the potential to contribute towards long-lasting solutions to social problems.

We launched the brand on the 16th of April, 2022 in the hill town of Kalimpong-
